On The Shoulders of Giants
By Dr. Jay L. Wile

It’s that time of year again. For someone who has spent most of his life in academic pursuits, that means it’s graduation time. As a university professor, I donned my academic regalia at least once each year and sat through interminable speeches given by people who were mostly trying to impress the listeners (and decidedly not succeeding). I obviously didn’t do it for the entertainment value of the commencement ceremony. I did it because I loved my students and wanted to share in their joyous occasion.

Surprisingly, now that I work mostly with home educated students, I attend even more graduation ceremonies. That’s because I speak at conferences which often have commencements associated with them. In addition, I am sometimes fortunate enough to be asked to speak at these momentous events.

This year, I was given the privilege of speaking at two commencement ceremonies, both in the great state of Indiana. It is difficult for me to express in words what I feel at these events. It is an odd mixture of thankfulness, awe, and genuine hope....

Resources for Life and Homeschool

Exploring Creation with Chemistry (2nd Edition)
By Dr. Jay L. Wile

This is designed as a first-year high school chemistry course to give students a rigorous foundation in chemistry and prepare them for a college-level course. The course covers significant figures, units, classification, the mole concept, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, acids and bases, redox reactions, solutions, atomic structure, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, the gas laws, and equilibrium.

While the laboratory experiments are designed for the home using common household chemicals and items, a laboratory equipment set is also available to simplify the experimental process. Students who take and understand this course will be very well-prepared for a tough college chemistry course.

The second edition of our chemistry course is enhanced with color illustrations, extra practice problems and detailed solutions, optional experiments for further lab experience, and references to online resources for more advanced study.

Apologia Staff Members Plan Mission Trips

Members of Apologia's conference teams take advantage of an incentive plan where hours worked in support of Apologia's conference outreach result in donations for short-term missionary programs. Three of our staffers, Josh Kirkland, Kyle McManamy, and Charles Carman, will be using this opportunity to help fund their upcoming journeys. Josh will be going to Brazil with Missionary Athletes International this July. Kyle is already in China, while Charles will be heading for Brazil with Impact360 this coming January. Congratulations to all three, and may God bless you in His service!
