- Fossil-Hunting Opportunities for Students
Do you want to see what it’s like to do field work in paleontology? - Yes, Virginia, Greenland was once Green.
Scientists looked in the mud under more than a kilometers of ice in Greenland and found the remains of a lush, temperate forest. Based on the diversity of fossil remains, it is estimated that Greenland at one time had a summer temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course, if that were to happen today, it would be blamed on “human-induced global warming.” I wonder who was emitting so many greenhouse gases back then?

Dr. George Taylor is the head of the Oregon Climate Service, which is based at Oregon State University. As a result, he holds the position of “State Climatologist.” Rather than giving in to hype, Dr. Taylor looks at the data. As a result, he understands that the current global warming hysteria is nonsense. This does not sit well with Oregon governor Ted Kulongoski. As a result, Kulongoski wants to strip the title of “State Climatologist” from Dr. Taylor (a title he has had for 16 years) and give it to a political crony who will spew the “party line.” According to the journal Science, the state climatologists of Virginia and Delaware are in a “similar fix” [Vol. 315: 1201, 2007]. Isn’t it sad that politicians would rather use their political power to suppress the scientific opposition instead of learn the truth about climate change?
- No Recent Global Warming in the Oceans.
While global warming activists continue to shut their eyes to the data, science continues to indicate that there is no global warming. The latest data set comes from the ocean. Initially, data indicated that the upper levels of the ocean cooled from 2003-2005. A reanalysis of the data now shows no cooling, but also no warming. This is a problem for global warming hysteria, as global climate models (used to predict global warming) predict a constantly rising ocean temperature.
- Scientists show that the genetic code is one in a million!
It takes three nucleotide bases on DNA to code for an amino acid. Since there are four possible nucleotide bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine), there are 64 possible three-nucleotide combinations. However, there are only 20 amino acids in the proteins of life. As a result, there is a lot of redundancy in the genetic code. This redundancy is actually a good thing, as it reduces error in genetic translation. However, there are many ways that DNA could code for amino acids. In this study, scientists tested 1,000,000 alternative genetic codes to see how efficient the actual genetic code is as compared to other plausible genetic codes. In their analysis, only one theoretical code out of a million was more efficient than the one that actually exists. The more data that come in, the more faith it takes to be an evolutionist!

- The Beginnings of the Meltdown of Paleontology
Renowned University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill paleontologist Dr. Alan Feduccia published a detailed study of supposed "feathered dinosaur" fossils that many paleontologists have hailed as proof that dinosaurs evolved into birds. In his study, Dr. Feduccia says that what paleontologists have claimed were fossilized "protofeathers" were, in fact, just remains of collagen (a protein) fiber meshworks. In his study, he says, "Our findings show no evidence for the existence of protofeathers..." [Feduccia A, Lingham-Soliar T, Hinchliffe JR., "Do feathered dinosaurs exist? Testing the hypothesis on neontological and paleontological evidence", J Morphol. 2005 Nov;266(2):125-66]. Interestingly enough, in the press release linked above, he says the very fact that such nonsense exists indicates, "...we are truly witnessing the beginnings of the meltdown of the field of paleontology..." Please note that Dr. Feduccia is not challenging the hypothesis that birds evolved. He is just pointing out that the currently popular view has no serious data supporting it.
- Homeschoolers are academically superior in the UK, just as they are in the US.
This study from the UK focuses on homeschooled children 4-5 years of age. Not surprisingly, when a standardized tool used to measure the academic level of such students was applied to homeschooled students, the homeschooled students scored much higher than their traditionally-schooled peers. As the author states, "...the home-educated four and five-year-olds demonstrated high levels of ability and good social skills." This is not surprising to anyone who has spent any time looking at the data related to homeschooling.

It has become popular to doubt what has been demonstrated by countless studies since the early 50's: male circumcision protects the female population from cervical cancer. However, the latest study on the subject demonstrates a clear link between lack of circumcision and high infection rates of HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer.

This site offers creation curriculum for the home school. It is written for three distinct grade levels (K-4, 4-8, and 9-12). The curriculum is very good, it is experiment/activity-oriented, and provides a lot of flexibility. It is also completely creationist! The authors are both homeschoolers. One has an elementary education degree and the other a degree in geology. Their training and experience have combined to help them produce great materials for solid education.

This is the largest homeschool study ever done. It shows that homeschoolers are academically superior to their public AND private school counterparts. The difference is astonishing and INCREASES the longer the student is homeschooled.
